Past and present design and technology vocations appear in...
Black Country Atelier (BCA) is a specialist in 3D Printing and Smart Product Design courses and training, serving schools, colleges and universities nationwide. BCA Smart Product Design Manufacture (SPDM) courses are Level 2 GCSE equivalent and count towards schools and colleges’ headline performance points and league tables. They are accredited by the UK awarding body The Learning Machine (TLM).
BCA was the lead teacher training provider for the Department for Education’s 3D Printing in Schools programme. The DfE 3D Printing in Schools Report “confirms that 3D printers have significant potential as a teaching resource… it can have a positive impact on pupil engagement and learning if schools can master how to use the printers in an effective and meaningful way.” Since then, BCA 3D Printing and CAD design courses have reached over ten thousand students in the UK, Germany, Spain and the UAE.
BCA is the first educational provider in the UK to develop an accredited Smart Product Design Manufacture (SPDM) course, taking an integrated approach to product design and development, click here to read more about this course. As designers and engineers develop next generation systems and products, the importance of incorporating “intelligence” into projects through the use of micro-controllers and embedded systems has grown exponentially. We find Smart Products all around us from Smart fire alarms to driverless cars.
With this in mind BCA sought to expand and enhance knowledge in this area by developing the world’s first accredited Smart Product Design courses. These are designed to give students a detailed understanding in how to use the latest CAD CAM software and hardware, while also teaching students key electronics, micro-controllers and coding skills required for modern careers.
This integrated approach to product development sets the standard for the future teaching of design and technology in the UK. BCA course learning outcomes in CAD CAM and micro-controllers are included in the UK National Curriculum for Design and Technology (D&T).
SPDM is ready to teach from September 2016 with league table points confirmed for 2017 and 2018. By delivering BCA’s Smart Product Design and Manufacture Courses and 3D printing courses, teachers will be meeting the new UK National Curriculum for Design and Technology (D&T), and more. You will also be offering students skills sought after by businesses and industry – now and into the future.
We bring the latest industry practice and ideas directly into the classroom. BCA work with a small group of champion schools to make sure learning outcomes are robust and practical for teachers to deliver.
